SMART METER DEPLOYMENT

The CEB is advancing towards a smart grid by deploying smart meters to replace outdated electro-mechanical meters. This transition supports better integration of renewable energy into the grid while enhancing operational efficiency and customer experience.

What is a Smart Meter?

A Smart Meter is an advanced electronic meter that provides customers with detailed insights into their energy usage, enabling better control over their electricity bills. Unlike traditional meters, smart meters can be read remotely via the optical fiber network, offering real-time data and enhanced functionalities.

Customer Benefits:

With the upcoming Customer Service Portal, customers will gain access to a range of features, including:

  • Viewing energy consumption trends and projected consumption.
  • Managing electricity usage efficiently.
  • Accessing and paying bills online.
  • Scheduling meter reading dates.
  • Reporting faults and making service requests online.

Progress and Long-Term Strategy:

  • Over 120,000 smart meters have been installed, representing nearly two-thirds of CEB's revenue base.
  • These investments are integral to transforming the CEB into a smart grid operator, capable of managing the complexities of tomorrow’s energy landscape.

The deployment of smart meters and associated technologies strengthens the grid's resilience and responsiveness, paving the way for a modern, customer-centric energy future.
