The Central Electricity Board (CEB) is a state-owned organisation under the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities in Mauritius. Established in 1952 and governed by the Central Electricity Board Act of 1963, CEB’s mission is to develop and execute energy solutions that ensure the reliable generation, transmission, distribution, and supply of electricity across Mauritius.
Electricity Generation:
The CEB generates approximately 40% of the nation’s electricity through 4 thermal power stations and 10 hydroelectric plants, while the remaining 60% is purchased from private power producers, including IPPs, MSDGs and SSDGs.
As the sole authority for electricity transmission, distribution, and supply, the CEB ensures the nation’s power needs are met efficiently and sustainably.
With a dedicated team of approximately 2,200 employees, the CEB is committed to powering Mauritius while driving innovation and energy transformation.
