To increase reliability and embrace modern practices, the CEB is planning to construct a Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) type substations. Previous CEB substations are Air-Insulated Substation (AIS) types which use atmospheric air insulation. A GIS uses a superior dielectric gas, SF6, at moderate pressure for insulation. The high voltage conductors, circuit breaker interrupters, switches, current transformers, and voltage transformers are housed in SF6 gas metal enclosures.
